I know this will seem rather silly to any serious Linux user, but this week I managed to rewrite a Makefile to work on my Ubuntu install, as well as edit some mildly buggy source code in order to install a molecular dynamics program (lammps) for one of my classes. In other news my Nvidia drivers decided to die on me last Friday and with the great help of Alex and Ubuntuforums, I was able to get both X and Beryl working again. I will admit to having cheated a bit when installing teh new Nvidia driver as i used envy which greatly simplified my problems.

Today I installed the Beryl Window-Manager/desktop-style package. I am impressed at the quality of its visual effects, and its relatively low processing and memory overhead. with Beryl installed Mac OSX and Windows Vista have nothing over the Linux interface.

I am running Ubuntu Linux and today I upgraded from Dapper Drake to Feisty Faun. I felt that dapper was a fairly strong, user friendly version, but Feisty has made this an even easier version to use by far. Things Ive noticed that are new in Feisty are support for Win-Modems (I haven't tested it though) generally updates to programs in the synaptic repository (Firefox and gaim 2.0). It also includes VMware in the repositories which makes installing and updating it much easier.
